MERTXE URTEAGA

 

She is an specialist in roman archaeology in the Atlantic area of the Basque Country, archeometallurgy and urban archaeology. For 25 years she has led archaeological research in Irun, and has discovered the remains of the Roman port of Oiasso en Irun; promoter of the Oiasso museum that she was the director of from the time it opened to the public to 2016, and founder of the Arkeolan Foundation. She has been a visiting professor at Valladolid University, professor at the University of the Basque Country, specialist in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage for the Basque Government. She has spent time carrying out research in London, Oxford, Amsterdam, Rome…

She regularly collaborates as a visiting professor in national and international postgraduate programs. She is the author of several books, dozens of articles, and director and editor of several publications. Since 2016 she has worked at the Historical-Artistic Heritage and Archives Service of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council Department of Culture. In 2003 she was member of the organizing committee of the Mar Exterior Congress that was held in Pisa and was in charge of publishing its proceedings.
