Astigarraga, Basque Country, 1974. He studied journalism and advertising at the EHU-UPV and cinema at Sarobe and San Diego (USA). In 2001 he co-founded the production company Moriarti, where he works as a director, producer and/or screenwriter. His short films have won awards in more than one hundred competitions and his documentaries for television have been broadcast in more than fifteen countries. In 2010, he co-directed the film 80 egunean with Jose Mari Goenaga. In 2014 his next film, Loreak (also co-directed with Goenaga), premiered in the Official Section of the San Sebastian Film Festival. After passing through the Festival, the film had a successful run at festivals and won twenty awards. Loreak was also nominated for a Goya for the best film of 2014 and a candidate for the 2015 Oscars. Garaño and Goenaga worked, as director and screenwriter, on the film Handia (2017), one of the great winners of the Goya Awards in 2018 Garaño is also co-director of La trinchera infinita, a feature film nominated in the Best Director category at the 2020 Goya Awards.
