Functions and areas of activity

The Department of Equality, Justice and Social Policies has the following functions and areas of action:

  1. Gender equal opportunity policy.
  2. Management and coordination of policies on care for victims of gender violence.
  3. Proposal and execution of the Government's policy on equality and policies aimed at making equality between women and men real and effective and the eradication of all forms of discrimination.
  4. Dealing with relations with the Judiciary.
  5. Provision of means for the functioning of the Administration of Justice.
  6. Penitentiary establishments, especially their organization, operation and execution of the penitentiary legislation, assume the exercise of the faculties that it attributes to the central organs of the penitentiary Administration.
  7. Exercising the powers in matters of minor offenders, with the collaboration of the other competent bodies and administrations to protect minors.
  8. Appointment of Notaries and Property Registrars.
  9. Guarantee, within the scope of the Administration of Justice, the exercise of the rights recognized to citizens by Law 10/1982, of November 24, basic for the normalization of the use of Euskera.
  10. Promotion of the conditions for the exercise of human rights and coexistence.
  11. Management and coordination of victim and memory policies.
  12. Proposal and execution of the Government's policy in terms of historical and democratic memory, as well as the exercise of the right to religious freedom.
  13. Protection of the family and reconciliation of work and family life.
  14. Community development. Social welfare and social services.
  15. Family mediation.
  16. Childhood and Adolescence. Protection of the minor. Youth.
  17. Ageing and demographic challenge.
  18. Promotion of conditions that facilitate affective-Orchural freedom.
  19. Immigration.
  20. Volunteering.
  21. Third Social Sector.
  22. Cooperation for development.
  23. Direct, in accordance with the laws and regulations, the public sector entities are attached or dependent on the department.
  24. Other faculties are attributed to it by laws and regulations.

 

The autonomous administrative bodies «Emakunde-Basque Institute for Women» and «Institute for Memory, Coexistence and Human Rights (Gogora)», and the public-private law entity «Basque Cooperation Agency for the Development".
